Alexis Rutt has been teaching and doing research in a linguistically diverse PreK-12 school district in the mid-Atlantic, where she has taught middle school science and newcomer courses for emergent bilingual students. Her research interests fall at the intersection of science and language learning with her current research focusing on how teachers can support emergent bilinguals’ use of multilingual repertoires to make meaning and engage in rigorous scientific practices like modeling and argumentation. In fall 2021, Alexis will join the College of Education at the University of Mary Washington as an Assistant Professor.
